![]() The Tennessee Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (TN IDA) was formed to increase awareness about Dyslexia in the state of Tennessee. The RISE conference is presented annually to present a forum for professionals, educators and parents that advocate for Reading Instruction Successfully Enhanced. He is married to his wife of 31 years, Elaine (Griffin) Stokes, and they have two wonderful sons, Dustin and Drew. from Carson-Newman College in political science and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1977. Prior to his judgeship, he practiced criminal and civil law in Sevier County, Tennessee, for more than twenty years. He currently is an adjunct professor with Carson-Newman College of Jefferson City, Tennessee, in constitutional law and criminal procedure. Judge Stokes is a regular speaker at the State of Tennessee General Sessions Judges Conference in the areas of criminal law and search and seizure law. Judge Stokes was appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court to serve on the State of Tennessee Court of the Judiciary. (which provides temporary shelter to children displaced from their homes due to abuse, neglect or other reasons). Judge Stokes serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries (to assist the homeless), and is board chairman of the Sevier County Juvenile Shelter, Inc. He was appointed in 2005 by Governor Bredesen to serve on the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth and also serves on the State of Tennessee Disproportionate Minority Contact Task Force.
